It proved so successful that its gameplay mechanics and structure were reproduced for over a decade, with Lego-fied franchises from Harry Potter to Marvel in nearly identical ways. In fact, it's about as old as the prequel trilogy the first game came out in 2005, the same year as Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Lego Star Wars, as a video game, is older than Disney's ownership of Star Wars. It's a complete reboot of the Lego Star Wars game series, and it could signal a massive overhaul for any Lego games based on popular licenses in the future. Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga isn't a collection, remake, or expansion of previous Lego Star Wars games. The natural reaction was to assume more of the same, but that isn't the case. "Heroes and villains will have their own unique abilities, from Darth Vader's Force Slam to Luke Skywalker's Force Push, while locales range from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace's Naboo to Hoth from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back." "They'll also build Lego towers on the battlefield to strategically attack, defend, and capture territory. "Players can collect and upgrade Lego Star Wars characters, troops, and vehicles from across the Star Wars saga to build their own army," the game's new description reads. Screenshots of the game's new Apple Arcade version show it looking the same as ever, although presumably the ability to make in-game purchases has now been stripped out.
